The problem of finding hidden Tor service after server restart

Hi All, I have several Raspberry Pi with hidden Tor service - I use this to connect to Raspberry over ssh. It works very well. I noticed that after restarting the raspberry, I have to wait a while for the hidden service to be found in the Tor network again. It's okay if I wait a minute, but sometimes I have to wait 5, 10 or even 15 minutes before the .onion address is found in the Tor network and I can connect to it. While waiting, I have a message in TorBrowser: *Onionsite Not Found*, in Torify: *Host unreachable* So I have a few questions. What determines the time after which I can find a hidden service on the Tor? Is it possible somehow to force a faster propagation of the availability of .onion address on the network? I've done a lot of testing but it looks very random. Could you please help clarify this point? Best Regards Manieck

Good evening, I speak Italian and I'm not very good with the English language so sorry in advance. My question is: is there a way to have a server in my house where I can connect the whole lan and wlan network so that everyone can use the tor network and remain anonymous? Thanks in advance :)

Possible Tor network attack?

Some onionsites are returning 0xF2 errorcode but their servers are online. Is the middle node blocking Tor's description request? Details: 0xF2 — Introduction failed, which means that the descriptor was found but the service is no longer connected to the introduction point. It is likely that the service has changed its descriptor or that it is not running. Retrieving a list of connections to own hidden service

Hello, I am wondering if it is possible to retrieve, via tor-control, the list of connections the tor daemon has opened to a hidden service it manages. For example, an application connects to tor-control and issues: ADD_ONION NEW:BEST Port=8333,127.0.0.1:8333 Which creates a hidden service addrwhatever.onion. Later somebody connects to addrwhatever.onion:8333 and the tor daemon opens a TCP connection like 127.0.0.1:46153 -> 127.0.0.1:8333. Next, some other application (not the tor daemon) connects directly to 127.0.0.1:8333 and that is 127.0.0.1:52490 -> 127.0.0.1:8333. What if the application running at 127.0.0.1:8333 wants to distinguish incoming tor connections from the rest? From its point of view the connections from the example above are just TCP connections coming from 127.0.0.1:46153 and 127.0.0.1:52490. GETINFO stream-status comes close, but it only prints addrwhatever.onion:8333 which is not sufficient. Question about preventing DDOS

My hidden service was getting a lot of DDOS attacks recently. It was firstly against Apache itself. I created a captcha system that doesn't spend much bandwidth even when under DDOS. Using OnionBalance to balance Tor instances between CPUs. My service is V3. So recently the way of DDOS changed. My bandwidth usage is nearly at maximum but even after I stop Apache service it continues. I checked it with Nethogs and Tor is spending the bandwidth when Apache is running or not running. HiddenServiceEnableIntroDoSDefense 1 HiddenServiceEnableIntroDoSRatePerSec 25 HiddenServiceEnableIntroDoSBurstPerSec 200 Using these settings with my hidden service but doesn't seem to be doing anything. Is there something known to stop this with a configuration or is dedicating more bandwidth the only way? My server spends 800 Mbps of bandwidth even though nothing is served. Thank you.

Hi all, Are there any known scripts(.sh /.py etc) that could help me setup multiple .onion services on a single machine? Something like pagekite can potentially help, except of course for onion services. My aim is to setup a xmpp instance, a WriteFreely instance and a mediawiki site ultimately. Regards,

Onion self healing / republish

Hey all, I'm sorry if this is something obvious, I've searched for a day and couldn't find satisfactory information. Feel free to point me to relevant resources if I missed them. So, I'd like to run Tor in a P2P setting on mobile phones ( https://github.com/coronanet) In general, everything works as expected. My issues are with the fine grained behaviors of the Tor proxy wrt onion addresses and network connectivity. As long as I allow a stable internet connection to Tor, everything's fine. What I wanted to check is how Tor behaves if I start pulling the rug from underneath it in various states. I've tried keeping Tor offline (network disabled), publish an onion into the service and then enable networking afterwards (SETCONF DisableNetwork 0). This also seems to work, when Tor goes online it publishes the onion that was added offline and I can access it (at least sending a HEARTBEAT signal reports "1 v3 INTRODUCE2 cells and attempted to launch 1 rendezvous circuits"). So far so good. Now comes the more interesting test: while networking is enabled and seemingly everything works, I cut off network access at the router level (i.e. simulate a phone losing WiFi signal / turning off data). Similar to my previous test, I've created a new onion in this scenario too, then reenabled WiFI. Unfortunately, whilst my first onion comes back online, the second one is lost in some black hole. My guess is that Tor **thinks** it's online, fails to register it, then some internal state gets messed up. If I try to list the current onions (GETINFO onions/current), both appear. If I try to list some infos about them via `GETINFO hs/service/desc/id/`, both look the same, reporting their own crypto keys. However, only the first one response, the second never gets router, neither noticed by the local Tor instance. At this point I'd be perfectly happy is this weird scenario was "not meant to work by design", as long as Tor could explicitly tell me somehow that "sorry, onion X is dead, sort it out yourself". I'd be even happier if this worked though. Maybe this is a bug that was fixed in a later version? I'm on 0.3.5.10. Thanks, Peter
