OONI data used as evidence in Kenya landmark public interest case

Hi friends, We're excited to share that *OONI data is being used as evidence* in support of a landmark public interest case in Kenya! Our report on the *blocking of Telegram during the 2023 & 2024 KCSE exams supported a petition* filed at the High Court of Kenya: https://ooni.org/post/2025-kenya-blocked-telegram-kcse-exams/ Specifically, BAKE, ICJ Kenya, Paradigm Initiative, Kenya Union of Journalists, Katiba Institute, The Law Society of Kenya (LSK), and CIPESA filed a public interest case, challenging the unlawful disruption of internet access in Kenya. Information about the case is available here: https://blog.bake.co.ke/2025/05/14/bake-6-other-organizations-challenge-int… In support of this case, we wrote a detailed technical report (in the form of an Expert Opinion) documenting the blocking of Telegram in Kenya during the 2023 and 2024 KCSE exams based on OONI data, which is included in the petition: https://blog.bake.co.ke/wp-content/uploads/2025/05/HCCHRPET.276.2025-ICJ-v-… This is so exciting, as Kenyan lawyers are setting an incredibly important legal precedent in the region for fighting internet censorship. We are so grateful that OONI data -- along with IODA data and Cloudflare data -- is supporting such an important case! Requirements for OONI's anonymous credentials system

Hello, How can we protect the OONI dataset from attacks and faulty measurements, while preserving the privacy of OONI Probe users? To protect and increase trust in OONI data, we are working with a cryptographer (Michele Orrù) towards designing and implementing anonymous credentials within OONI Probe. Upcoming anonymous credential system for OONI

Hello, We are excited to share that the OONI team is collaborating with a talented cryptographer, Michele Orrù, to design and implement *anonymous credentials within OONI Probe* to protect and increase trust in OONI data. As we kick off this project, Michele wrote a blog post which provides an *overview of the current literature on anonymous credentials*, describing why an anonymous credential system would be a good option for strengthening the OONI dataset, while protecting the privacy of OONI Probe users.
