Hi folks, I spent some time this week refining a new exit scanner, and today we pushed some new reject rules to kick out some relays that we confirmed were running mitmproxy to do more sslstrips. syn flood iptables rule

The following 3 statements # Make sure NEW incoming tcp connections are SYN packets; otherwise we need to drop them. $IPT -A INPUT -p tcp ! --syn -m state --state NEW -j DROP # DDoS $IPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m recent --name synflood --set $IPT -A INPUT -p tcp -m state --state NEW -m recent --name synflood --update --seconds 60 --hitcount 10 -j DROP seems to work and to help here ata fast Tor relay. CPU went down from 109% to 95%. There're 500 connections less than before for a Tor fast relay. The /proc/net/xt_recent/synflood is quickly filled. Unfortunately I cannot change the "ip_list_tot" of "xt_recent" b/c I do use a non-modular kernel. Does anybody knows a circumvention? Are there any objections against this approach? -- Toralf

Hi All, I work with time and frequency references and run some tor bridges. What is the objective of "iat_mode" setting? Is an good timming reference important for this setting? For now, i'm adminstrating 3 briges, one with iat_mode=0, iat_mode=1 and iat_mode=2. Could you explain or forward me to some reading about it? Publishing server descriptor without IPv6 address. [2 similar message(s) suppressed in last 2400 seconds] I think it started with the introduction of IPv6 auto-discovery. The problem, as I understand it, is that my relay has IPv6 privacy extensions enabled and therefore the IPv6 detection logic gets fooled. Indeed the IPv6 I see in the logs is one of the temporary addresses used as client towards other relays. Relevant config is: ORPort 443 IPv4Only ORPort [...]:443 IPv6Only I added the IPv{4,6}Only options only in searching a solution to this problem, before 0.4.5.5 the IPv6 relay worked perfectly without. In reading the documentation of AddressDisableIPv6 I got the impression that if (any?) ORPort is configured with IPv4Only the IPv6 auto-discovery gets disabled but evidence does not support my understanding. Is it a bug? Any other way to disable IPv6 auto-discovery? -- flev

Relay metrics - chart never populates

current requirements for Fast and HSDir flags

What are the current requirements to get an HSDir flag assigned to a relay? MYCROFTsOtherChild has, at last heartbeat message, been up for 35 days and 7 hours. To the best of my knowledge, it has not had an HSDir flag in the consensus at any time since it was last started more than a month ago. What are the current requirements to get a Fast flag assigned to a relay? MYCROFTsOtherChild often runs busily at 330 KB/s to 350 KB/s. Sometimes since it was last started over a month ago it has had a Fast flag in the consensus, and at other times it has not. The Fast flag seems to come and go like the wayward breezes. The Bandwidth= value in the consensus entry for MYCROFTsOtherChild has varied from somewhere in the 30s to the 110s, AFAI have seen, but is always subject to the delayed effects of the presence or absence of the Fast flag, of course, and prior to the currently running instance has also been subject to the presence or absence of the HSDir flag. The authorities have seemed to be acting more or less at random when assigning flags for the consensus for many months. Does the tor project envision any timeline for a return to rational, predictable behavior on the part of the authorities? Scott Bennett, Comm. Thinking of IPv6: How far has the team got in implementing IPv6 only OR port facility ? Currently you can only run tor relay of any sort if there is open IPv4 OR port to the internet. This is getting a bit quaint. I am sure I am not alone in having much wasted bandwidth that could be put to good Tor use but they are only accessible via IPv6, while they can exit of course IPv4 and IPv6 I realise that so far, despite IPv6 being open on my main exit for some years, there is still little IPv6 traffic, but that might suddenly change. Stable flag and client load

I am running a bridge, realseven, fingerprint 10B5293C71793DC1E56A5B17434C0539F70FBB38. It's been up for 71 days and has yet to get the stable flag or more than 3 or 4 connected clients.
