Nginx Implementation

All, I currently run my mirror on Apache with nginx serving as the front end reverse proxy. I would like to migrate the mirror to solely use nginx instead of Apache. I did a DDG search and turned up this thread http://archives.seul.org/or/mirrors/Jun-2009/msg00002.html Rather than reinvention the wheel, I would appreciate any notes you have on your implementations.
