# Comment added [ mik](https://hosted.weblate.org/user/mik/ "mik"): [Hosted Weblate](https://hosted.weblate.org) / [Tor Project](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/) / [Tor websites - torproject.org](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/tpo-web/) / [English](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/tpo-web/en/) ## Source string \- For **Tor Browser on Desktop**, the application may **anonymously** check for available software updates from Tor Project servers. These update checks: ## Comment 'software updates from Tor Project servers' is confusing. NoScript update is NOT from Tor Project servers, and it is specifically indicated below in source. [Hosted Weblate] New comment in Tor Project/Tor Browser/Tor Browser - tor-browser.ftl

"Onion site" is an abbreviation of "onion website": a website whose domain URL ends in ".onion", which is reachable through the Tor network. ## Comment 'keys from Tor' is confusing. fetch keys from Tor (i.e. onion site) and save them on local computer? Or, the keys are entered by users and saved? # Comment added [ emmapeel](https://hosted.weblate.org/user/emmapeel/ "emma peel"): [Hosted Weblate](https://hosted.weblate.org) / [Tor Project](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/) / [Tor websites - torproject.org](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/tpo-web/) / [English](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/tpo-web/en/) ## Source string We'll reflect on the first days of the onion routing network at the U.S. Naval Research Lab (NRL). (Back then, onion router connections went through five nodes instead of Tor's current three-nodes design!) It's no secret that the concept of onion routing originated at NRL (it's on [our history page](../about/history/)), but there is so much more we want to share about how Tor started and where we've come in the last 25 years. ## Comment Thanks **[@Alan.G12r](https://hosted.weblate.org/user/Alan.G12r/ "Alan")** , I have opened <https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/web/tpo/-/merge_requests/642> with the change. # Comment added [ emmapeel](https://hosted.weblate.org/user/emmapeel/ "emma peel"): [Hosted Weblate](https://hosted.weblate.org) / [Tor Project](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/) / [Tor websites - torproject.org](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/tpo-web/) / [English](https://hosted.weblate.org/projects/tor/tpo-web/en/) ## Source string For example, the software title “BROWSER X – connect to the Tor network!” or the handle “@BrowserX-Tor,” are not permitted, because consumers who see those uses are likely to assume that they are official Tor services or accounts. Domain names like “TorHelpDesk.com,” or the social media group “Tor Help Desk,” would also be likely to cause confusion. ## Comment Yes, it sounds a bit weird, but this section is written in 'legal English', written by lawyers, so it has some overpunctuation.
