Hey Tor, April found us spreading glitter at the Internet Freedom Festival. We shared a lot of sessions with the Community Team, we spent valuable time with our founders and also we met with old and new friends. We ran some talks, table time and meetups, you see them here https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/org/meetings/2019Valencia We provided our new outreach material in 3 different languages. Soon, it will be available for download at the new community portal, which is a work-in-progress: https://lektor-staging.torproject.org/community After torproject.org release, we worked on some short iterations of the download page, and we fixed some hot bugs. Also, we released it in two more languages: Icelandic and Georgian. The community team traveled to Colombia during April and Narirral (nah), a researcher from Brazil, joined ggus to run usability studies over Tor Browser desktop in Spanish with our community members. We released OONI Explorer Beta, and we are planning what we should prioritize for the stable version, in June. The network team is working on a feature that allows onion services admins to set up an authentication key for accessing the service. The end-user facing part for this feature is the client authorization. Hi everyone! Here comes the April report for the Tor Browser team (a bit late this time, but hey!). In that month we got Tor Browser 8.5a11[1] out which above all contains improvements for Tor Browser for Android stabilizing the alpha release and preparing for the first mobile stable one. Unfortunately we did not manage to get Tor Browser 8.5 out in April, thus this will happen in May. However, we made progress on a number of other fronts: We got up to speed on our Sponsor 27 tasks and started investigating different options for reporting onion service errors back from tor to the browser[2][3] and we started to work on Snowflake integration into the mobile Tor Browser[4]. Both sponsor work will keep parts of the team busy in May as well. Moreover, we started to plan our upcoming Firefox 68 ESR transition work. The full list of tickets closed by the Tor Browser team in April is accessible using the `TorBrowserTeam201904` keyword in our bug tracker.[5] In May we'll finally release Tor Browser 8.5. That will not only be the first stable release for Android users but will have restored full accessibility support for Windows users, too[6]. Moreover, we hope as well to finish our Snowflake integration on Android to have additional capacity to work on the first big tasks for the Firefox 68 ESR transition: toolchain updates for all supported platforms[7] and rebasing our patches and upstreaming them if possible[8]. Hi! We had another weekly Tor Browser meeting yesterday. We should think about how to avoid similar problems to armagadd-on 2.0 (#30388) in the future, specifically not having a bundled extension stop working (mcs) - esr68 transition work (GeKo: we plan to start soon with picking up toolchain work and rebasing browser patches (+ getting Torbutton integrated in the browser) - 8.5 release work (GeKo: due to armagadd-on 2.0 we'll postpone the 8.5 release and won't ship it with the 60.7.0esr security release; eta is a week later) mcs and brade: Last week: - #30000 (Integrating client-side authorization to onion services v3). - experimented with Arthur's old patch from 14389#comment:15. - discussed requirements with Network Team members. - Helped a tiny bit for #30388 (NoScript and all user-installed add-ons got deactivated!).
