Relay operator section in our forum

Hello! Some of you might already have seen that we have a shiny new forum now.[1] And, of course, there is a part of it dedicated to providing support for relay operators as well.[2] Check it out and feel free to contribute! Thanks, Georg [1] https://forum.torproject.net/ [2] https://forum.torproject.net/c/support/relay-operator/17

thank you for creating the Discourse forum. Without the direct link it is a bit hard to find the relay section, without reading all the smaller subsection names since it is a bit unexpected to find it under "Support User support for Tor in English. [...]" if the "tor-talk" ML can be mapped to "General Discussion" maybe it would be nice to have the "tor-relays" replacement on the same level? nit: I would find "Relay Operations" more appealing than the current "Relay Operator" name (singular). kind regards, nusenu -- https://nusenu.github.io

I've to admit I'm a bit surprised the torproject has chosen the Discourse Saas option instead of running it on a system where you control what logs are stored and for how long. https://forum.torproject.net/privacy Are there plans to make it available as an onion service? https://onion.torproject.org/ -- https://nusenu.github.io

Discourse was contacted, and as it looks right now, we are not getting an onion service. https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/tpa/team/-/issues/40183#note_2740700 I looked around a little, but I can't find where there is anything on exactly why it isn't self hosted. -- HackerNCoder

At the moment, we've prefered to follow other projects path[1] and use Discourse free hosting for open source projects. The new forum works fine with Tor Browser and/or you can enable the 'mailing list mode'[2] and never interact with Discourse web interface.

Yes, but not at the moment. Gus

I'v moved the discussion to tor-talk since it is about more then just tor-relays: https://lists.torproject.org/pipermail/tor-talk/2021-October/045779.html -- https://nusenu.github.io

Following Discourse recommendation, we're starting with a few categories and subcategories. Adding too many categories before using would look like a complex maze and making hard to people ask a simple question. This week we're soft releasing the forum[1] and adjusting some settings. We're officially announcing the Tor Forum next week on our Blog.

If people here enjoy the Tor Forum, we can add a new entire 'Relay Community' category and more subcategories (Good/Bad ISPs, Bridges[2], Exits, meetups...). Discourse is very flexible and we can move old topics to new categories and so on.
nit: I would find "Relay Operations" more appealing than the current "Relay Operator" name (singular).
