iOS AppStore - Trademark violations

Hey there, Following the great news that Onion Browser for iOS finally became free, I took a look at Apple AppStore to see what other apps are there that are pretending to be "the" Tor for iOS, and unfortunately found plenty that use Tor logo or brand name to promote themselves. Most of which are not free (as in beer / nor as in freedom) and seem to be even injecting ads to users. The worst part... some of them have hundreds of 5 star reviews. So I collected a bunch of them under this ticket: https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/20873 However I couldn't find the right component to file the ticket under. So I thought I'd drop a line to the mailing list and let people know this exists, in case the ones who need to deal with these issues read the mailing list. Should we have a legal component on trac? Adding a "General" component to Trac

Hi everyone! This ticket has been opened by mrphs couple days ago and it seems we lack a component for such idea: https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/ticket/21013 I propose we add a new Component to Trac that is called something like "General" (which is probably not the best name btw) and put ticket like this in it. Ticket without component usually will get lost in the dark dark void of Trac and we have no right now for "general purposes" Tor ideas/issues/improvement. Thoughts? David

email interface for Trac: a proposal

Hi everyone, I have been working my way through a wish list of Trac features, and started from implementing an interface to create and reply to tickets via email. I now have a simple prototype, but before proceeding I'd like to receive some feedback on my proposal so far. So here is my masterplan: 1. Verify that the email is signed and the signature is recognised. For the moment and during the first pilot we could restrict this feature to @tpo addresses and verify the key w/ the info we have in db.tpo. Further on, we can verify the key by importing eventually missing keys from known keyservers. I am implementing step 1 through procmail and a simple script. 2. If the email has a valid signature, check permissions for the users, parse the email and create the ticket or reply to a thread. I am implementing step 2 through a python script, so that I can interface directly with Trac libraries. Note that I am assuming that I am receiving somehow the email on the server. For testing purpose I have been configuring postfix, but this of course might change in prod. A couple of questions I now have. - Do you have any particular concern with this setup? - Anything I should consider when introducing a change in a tpo infrastructure machine? One last thing: the architecture is simple enough but I'd like to share my scripts and procmail setup, so that you can all have a look. Can I get a git repo for this project? Thanks, - s

Many obfs4 bridges with similar nicknames and characteristics

There are many bridges in Onionoo that seem to follow a common naming convention: two dictionary words concatentated, then truncated to 16 characters. That, plus the fact that many of them run on the same platform, run only the obfs4 transport, and have related last_restarted times, makes me think they are somehow related and perhaps malicious. In a sample of 200 Onionoo bridges, 19% followed the convention. I noticed this by accident and I'm not planning to look into it more, so I'm dropping notes here. I downloaded https://onionoo.thecthulhu.com/details?type=bridge ("bridges_published":"2016-11-28 21:41:02") and manually looked at the first 200 entries (of ~2500). I picked out the ones that followed the naming convention: two dictionary words concatenated and truncated to 16 characters; the 40 matches are appended to this message. Of those, only 2 (mapletalon and coffledtileries) don't match the others with respect to transports. The words look like they are randomly chosen from a dictionary and some of them are esoteric or proper names.
