ey there:
so, i wanted to propose to link to the translations on most of documentation pages.
why:
- - many times you reach the docs in a language that is not your native language - - users are starting to configure their browsers with less information regarding language, and so the automatic language selection may fail - - it is easier to change the URLs when translating if you only need to open the link and get the link to the page in your language
places where this should happen are:
- - Guides in the wiki, very much linked elsewhere (in the new support portal, for example): https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/TorRelayGuide - - Tor Browser user manual:https://tb-manual.torproject.org/en-US/index.html
Can people help me find translations - links, etc?
Also, any mallard experts that can do something neat for https://tb-manual.torproject.org/ ?
Thanks in advance!
I agree that getting the support portal translated & making the lang index easy to see will be a good idea once it is completed. đ
If needed I am able to help with any Mallard work - I've been using it to update manual pages the past few months.
Relevant, there is also already a translation / Transifex instructional implemented into the manual alpha: https://tb-manual.torproject.org/alpha/en-US/translate.html

So, do you think you could add language links to the pages at https://tb-manual.torproject.org/en-US/index.html, so each page has the links to read it on other languages?
For example, at https://tb-manual.torproject.org/alpha/en-US/circumvention.html we should have links to ar/ de/ en-US/ es-ES/ fa/ fr/ it/ ko/ nl/ pl/ pt-BR/ ru/ tr/ vi/ zh-CN/ versions.
And if we can make the browser choose the language according to the user language, better!
Relevant, there is also already a translation / Transifex instructional implemented into the manual alpha: https://tb-manual.torproject.org/alpha/en-US/translate.html
That is great, but this manual is not linked anywhere. It would be great if we can make it more prominent on the tor project website, as the information on https://www.torproject.org/ is only in english and is not linking the alpha version nor the stable version of the manual...
Hi Emma / all,
Sorry for coming to this thread a bit late, am just catching up on email today.
One idea for this, that may make things a bit easier:
Instead of doing this in Mallard, it might be worth designing a landing page for https://tb-manual.torproject.org https://tb-manual.torproject.org/, and having that list all of the languages (instead of displaying the folder view). Putting the language list in with the manual itself may cause some issues when attempting to generate formats other than HTML (docbook, pdf, etc..).
If this sounds like a reasonable path forward, I am happy to work with Jaruga / Tommy to show them how to accomplish this.
Thanks for bringing this up!

A landing page would be nice, but I would like to have the link on all pages, so people can easily go to their preferred language if they happen to open a document on another language.
