Hi all,

October was a release-free month for the Tor Browser team which mainly
involved work on SponsorU related tickets and upstreaming our patches to
Mozilla.

One area that is noteworthy in particular was our effort with respect to
sandboxing Tor Browser on OS X and Linux. We managed to track down all
remaining bugs to allow the browser communicating over Unix domain
sockets with tor[1] and the result will be visible in the next alpha
release which is due November 15. Related in that area: first Seatbelt
profiles are available for testing and providing feedback[2] and we made
progress with our sandbox for Linux. Including that one into our Gitian
build setup and having it thus ready for delivery is underway[3].

We made progress in other areas, like Tor Browser's usability, as well
over the month. Most notably we investigated and fixed problems due to
the recent OS X update (10.12)[4][5][6]. The full list of tickets closed
by the Tor Browser team in October is accessible using the
TorBrowserTeam201610 tag in our bug tracker[7].

For November we plan to release Tor Browser 6.0.6, 6.5a4 and
6.5a4-hardened. Additionally, we intend to focus on and fix our
remaining SponsorU tasks[8]. If there is time to address further bug
reports and enhancement requests then we plan to choose from tickets
being on our radar for this month which can be seen with the
TorBrowserTeam201611 tag in our bug tracker[9].

Georg
