Comment:

 I was helping trying to troubleshoot this issue and at this point I think
 I need to look at tor debug logs and possibly instrument goptlib with a
 ton of debug spew to fully diagnose this.

 To get a tor debug log, add `Log debug file /tmp/debug.log` to your torrc,
 restart tor, and reproduce the error.  Since the log contains sensitive
 information, you can either sanitise it or e-mail it to me with PGP since
 you have my key.  Please don't forget to remove the `Log debug` line from
 the torrc after you are done obtaining logs as it is incredibly verbose
 and will fill up your filesystem if you leave it in place.
