 Apologies for this late reply (I was very busy last week), but I just had
 the chance to test your patch against the newly-released .6-alpha and it
 is sound - I don't have to cut the '$' from the node anymore.

 Can't wait for the rest of the issues I reported above - if you need
 further help with the testing just let me know Nick.
