Hey Folks.
I am going to change my Exit to a Bridge or whatever.
When im browsing the Web i receive tons auf capchas and my KODI mediacenter is unable to update itself.
I have my private IP fromm y Internet connection listet on some blacklists. Thats bad.
What can i do to contribute and support the TOR-Network without being bugged and limited on my own private Internet Connection?
Hope you can help me with some cool suggestions.
Best,
volker

Run a regular non-exit relay or run a bridge, as it seems you've already decided.
Matt
Hi Volker,
i'd suggest to run a middle-relay at your home line. But be aware, that some servers also block tor-middle relays, regardless of the relay type. Running a middle relay will still have your IP listed in various tor-relay lists.
If you run a bridge, most likely, this will not happen.
Also keep in mind, that it will take quite some time to get your IP removed from the block lists etc. Maybe getting a "fresh" new IP for your bridge might be an option. You might need to actively ask for delistings.
Kind regards, Matthias

Bridges are safer, because IPs aren't explicitly public.

Thanks so far. Does it keep my stats in Atlas when i change it from an exit to a bridge? What do i have to change in the torrc-file?

Note that if the IP address was an exit relay or relay it probably ended up in few lists (the IP addresses of all relays are public) and it might not be a good bridge ... because it will be already blocked and nobody would be able to use that bridge.
If you can get a fresh IP address and run a bridge that would be awesome, if not simply keep it as a middle relay.
I challenge you to keep it as an exit, exits are more helpful and more fun to run. Just fight with abuse complaints, it's not that hard and it'll make you feel better :) try keeping it as an exit.
My problems are not the abuse complaints. I had two, some years ago and got some great help from the community! :)
My problems are way too much capcha-challenges during my normal internet usage.

I'd suggest to run an exit relay at some datacenter and not at home. It is not advised (generally) to run exits at home. Maybe turn your home line into some bridge and rent some server somewhere to run an exit relay.

Im running an EXIT-relay on a hosted system for three month now.
At home i started with a raspberry about 3-4 years ago. I successfully fought 2 abuse complaints and had no problems with my normal internet usage at home. 4-5 month ago it started with more and more issues during normal internet usage at home.

I had the same issue with normal Internet usage (capchas, etc.) and I was running a middle out of my home. I even got blocked from using Hulu because of the IP address. It wasn't even a full month of having a relay running. I have since switched to VPS. It is just easier and less hassle.
