Minimum traffic for a relay to be helpful to the network

Hello list, So a while back, I was attempting to run a relay via Google Cloud, but had trouble finding an appropriate speed without having to spend a huge amount of money on outbound traffic. I am wondering what would be a good amount to dedicate to the relay while keeping it inexpensive to run: Here is Google Clouds pricing plans https://cloud.google.com/network-tiers/pricing It appears they charge a few cents a gigabyte, thx. --Keifer

"Pricing will be based on both source and destination geolocation of traffic" Do you operate there at all Tor-relays? Forget google cloud for TOR! There are countless better providers in the world where you can get a VPN or root server for a few dollars.

lol, sorry 0,10 $/GB = 1000 $/10TB one Tor-instace ~ 50TB/month For the money you get several racks for colocation! A used dedicated root server from the "serverbörse" costs 5 - 40 EURO per month here in Germany. Inclusive Traffic - 10 TB to unlimited (if you are lucky) You only need a small one. 2core CPU and 2-4 GB ram is more than enough for one Tor-instance. So do not pay attention to the hardware. Look only for inclusiv traffic. 10 TB is little - 50 TB or unlimited is great. -- ╰_╯ Ciao Marco!

You can run a relay through a VPS provider which only costs a few dollars a month. For instance, I hosted mine through OVH for around $6 a month with unlimited bandwidth. Cheers! Sent from ProtonMail Mobile On Tue, Nov 5, 2019 at 8:00 AM, Keifer Bly <keifer.bly@gmail.com> wrote:
