Sorry if asked before, made a stupid oversight restarting one of my exits yesterday, had duplicated the fingerprint file from another node. Changed the file to the correct nickname today (I know nicknames are depreciated now) and reset tor, how long will it take this change to propogate to the network? -Jason

Hi Jason,
The fingerprint file is just written out for your benefit. It's never used by the relay -- the relay uses the actual key, not just the fingerprint of the key.
See also https://www.torproject.org/docs/faq#UpgradeOrMove for more details about what counts as your relay's soul. :)
Thanks! --Roger
Thanks for that, figured out it was an overlooked torrc line causing the problem. -Jason

Said that, when I setup my first exit node I do no longer need to define a nickname ?
Tor clients won't make critical decisions based on your relay's nickname. But defining a good nickname can still be useful. For example, the nickname will still be displayed on websites like Atlas and Globe. It would be pretty sad if all relays there were called "Unnamed".
Thanks for setting up an exit!
All the best, Karsten
