Hello! I deployed a new tor-relay about 2 months ago. It runs on a server with 2 Quad-cores, 8GB RAM and 1Gbit connection.
However, I have still not received very much traffic to it, it almost never goes above 10Mbit.
This is the server traffic the last 2 months:

Is this normal or may I have configured something wrong?
Last time I had a relay running I received 100Mbit+ traffic...

Tim is referring to the phenomenon described here: https://blog.torproject.org/blog/lifecycle-of-a-new-relay And it looks like that dip and rebuilding already happened: https://atlas.torproject.org/#details/94F9D8D35C4A4851B1DAF85F70F90DB95065E8...

So yes, this is a mystery. I wonder if you have a 1gbit connection to some parts of the Internet but not most of them? How much bandwidth your relay uses is also a function of how much spare capacity there is the network right now: so long as the green and blue lines in this graph: https://metrics.torproject.org/network.html#bandwidth are far enough apart, then you won't necessarily be saturated with traffic. But it's still odd that you never see spikes higher, assuming your network can really handle it.

What are the differences between your old torrc and your new one? --Roger

Yeah I read it and figured that enough time have passed and I should start to see more traffic.
So yes, this is a mystery. I wonder if you have a 1gbit connection to some parts of the Internet but not most of them? This sounds a little far-fetched don't you think? We have multiple links to our upstream, non of them congested and our upstream have good peering with a lot of big networks in both europe and US. I really don think this network congestion is the issue here...
What are the differences between your old torrc and your new one?
Sadly I don't have my old torrc, last time was over 2 years ago and the server I used is gone now. I did however apply all the changes I found here: https://lists.torproject.org/pipermail/tor-relays/2010-August/000164.html but after reading more I figured maybe some of the sysctl-commands did more damage than good... could this be part of the problem maybe? Regards, Markus

I uploaded my current torrc here: http://pastebin.com/iJjawwf6 any help tuning it is appreciated! Regards, Markus From: markus_klock@hotmail.com To: tor-relays@lists.torproject.org Date: Mon, 19 May 2014 12:35:05 +0200 Subject: Re: [tor-relays] relay not receiving very much traffic

Will try to change Address to IP instead of hostname. Cool, did not know about the HardwareAccel, enabling it now. Nope, SSL is patched and not vurnable to heartbleed Regards, Markus From: zwiebel@quantentunnel.de To: tor-relays@lists.torproject.org Date: Mon, 19 May 2014 18:02:47 +0200 Subject: Re: [tor-relays] relay not receiving very much traffic torrc looks good in my eyes. I dont use 'Address'. Did you try the IP 'Address 193.11.113.99' ? For a higher speed (which we dont talk about today) you can use 'HardwareAccel 1' I suppose SSL is not bleeding?
