Hello world!
Today, we’re launching our end-of-year crowdfunding campaign, highlighting the ways that Tor powers digital resistance and protects essential human rights around the world. We’re especially excited about this campaign because our friends at Mozilla are matching donations up to $500,000, meaning that donations go twice as far.
More info (and links to donate) are on our blog: https://blog.torproject.org/powering-digital-resistance-help-mozilla
Tor’s done amazing work in 2017, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved. This crowdfunding campaign is an opportunity to start 2018 strong (and to get some awesome swag -- check out https://donate.torproject.org/).
So, please donate if you can. If you can’t right now, please spread the word about this campaign. Tell your friends that, because of Mozilla’s matching program, there's never been a better time to donate to our favorite anonymity network.
Thanks, everyone!
TC

Thanks for the campaign, it is neat! (I have also received earlier today an email inviting me to donate)

I would like to have a clarification. Does this campaign have a deadline? In other words, is Mozilla going to match all donations made until the threshold of 500k USD is reached (whenever that may be) or they will match all the donation "made until $DATE up to 500k USD"?.
Thanks for your awesome work.
Cristian

Hey Cristian,
Thanks for your support! Mozilla will match donations made during the campaign, which will probably run until mid-January.
As a general reminder, Mozilla's matching program applies to every donation method -- credit card, bitcoin, checks in the mail, etc. etc.
Best, Tommy

Will they match Amazon Smile donations? Just curious.
Hey Paul. You started quite a hunt here in the office, trying to clearly establish the trail the Amazon Smile donations take. We can now confirm that those donations are deposited directly into our bank account periodically, and they never hit our donation database. So we will not be asking Mozilla to match that money.
Mozilla is being extremely generous with us, and we could ask them to include the Amazon Smile deposits, but I kinda feel like that's cheating, since those are already given in part based on Amazon's generosity. Shari

I didn't mean to make work for anyone, but I hope the result was useful for better understanding the flow of donation money and the meaning of any particular numbers.

I agree completely on all counts. It was saying "hmmm" about just those sorts of thoughts that prompted me to ask. And especially given that the answer was basically as I expected with roughly the same attitude about it on your part, I again apologize if I prompted extra work for anybody.
aloha, Paul

Yep. It was an exercise worth doing. :)
