I have been trying to download the new Tails the past week via torrent and the tracker seems to be broken.
I know it isn't a good idea to use torrents over tor, but why doesn't torproject.org distribute the TBB, Tails and other tor related software with torrents?
And if torproject.org doesn't want to host a tracker, what would you recommend for the trackers system requirements?
If I were to do it, a few requirements I have are: DNSSEC enabled domain. Not an open tracker, only serve Tails, TBB and other tor related packages. The torrent files are available through https with a valid certificate.
Thanks, Chuck

We would love to distribute Tor Browser Bundle via Tor2web, useful for specific use-cases:

It's on the roadmap for the next Satori release. I've distributed Tor Browser and Thunderbird via torrents in the past few months, but am keen to automate torrent creation since there are 60 separate TBB files (plus GPG signatures) for each release. Right this moment, don't have the time to keep up with that. January there should be a semi-automated system in place to release updates as torrents.

We can also use S3's bit-torrent feature: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AmazonS3/latest/dev/S3Torrent.html It's relatively painless. Tor has its own Amazon account, I am also more than happy to provide my own S3 for to mirror Tor's binaries.
Hi Sina,
Thanks for this - I actually did not know about this feature. I have a long list of trackers that I want added, so this might not be an ideal long-term solution. Though right now I'm distributing via S3 directly.

We discussed this in the past [0] and Moritz wrote a script [1] that generates the torrent files for the bundles. The only issue was that with a public tracker, it's trivial to find out who is participating in the download, and therefore, who is downloading the bundles.
(You can also request bundles from GetTor which is back in operation [2], or using Satori.)
