Good morning / noon / evening!
During the last months we were working to improve the legacy tpo website. If you feel like, please have a look and give feedback: https://github.com/torproject/webwml/pulls
Some of these changes would be great to get merged soon to correct outdated information, some are enhancements with less urgency.
Since the current webwml website will be replaced by lektor based projects our focus is to migrate HTML to markdown and add them to the according repositories.
At this point your help is needed because it is not completely clear where to put each content. A result of trying to get an overview is https://bugs.torproject.org/28532
Some examples:
- Instant messaging
https://github.com/torproject/manual/pull/6
Although named 'manual' this repository seems to be limited to Tor Browser. Should instructions to torify applications be added to support.torproject.org instead?
- Bridges / Pluggable Transports
PR 7 wants to merge the tpo bridges page: https://github.com/torproject/manual/pull/7 https://www.torproject.org/docs/bridges
It may be smart to use this opportunity to also merge https://www.torproject.org/docs/pluggable-transports.html.en
There is some overlap between this and the bridges page. Following the links on this page brings up the wiki: https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/PluggableTransports/list https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/PluggableTransports/obfs4p... https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/doc/PluggableTransports#Become...
Should these instructions be added to support.torproject.org?
- FAQs
There are several FAQs, see torproject.org/faq, Will support.torproject.org be the new home?
- Mirrors
Now the tb-manual lists mirrors. Our mirror community is longing for an update of the tpo mirrors list. Where can it be added? http://dgvdmophvhunawds.onion/downloading/ https://github.com/torproject/webwml/pull/58 https://www.torproject.org/getinvolved/mirrors
Thanks and hopefully this is not too much at once! (happy about replies with tiny bits as well)

Hi traumschule, thanks for all your work on this.

I don't actually have write access to this repo. I just inquired about getting it, but I wonder if someone else can get started on reviewing on merging these PRs. Phoul maybe?

It is the Tor Browser manual only, yes. I don't know where to include information about torifying apps, but I am inclined to hold off on that and leave it on the wiki for now because I don't think it's a priority.

Should these instructions be added to support.torproject.org?
They should not. Anything related to Tor relays should be part of the Tor relay guide: https://trac.torproject.org/projects/tor/wiki/TorRelayGuide which will later become part of the community portal. But we will port all that content over.
- FAQs
There are several FAQs, see torproject.org/faq, Will support.torproject.org be the new home?
Yes! It would be helpful if you or someone else could go through the FAQ and look for any questions that are not currently on the support portal, and then we can make sure that those get merged.

This is also something that will end up on one of the new portals, though I am not sure which one but likely community.torproject.org. I am cautious about adding anything new to the old website since we are working on content for the new one. So maybe you want to help once we're ready to create that community.tpo content.

What about an "Applications" or "Use X with Tor" section on support.tpo? There are already questions on it, the legacy FAQ will bring more. However PR 6 isn't in q&a format and would need some tricks to shoehorn it into / split up by application like "Is it safe to use Skype with Tor?" etc.

This page is now merged into PR 7 and should proposedly be redirected to the tb-manual / wiki because it contains an outdated list of PTs. https://github.com/torproject/manual/commit/6a27b09304cc4d864b4a445a0864976c...

Currently preparing pull requests for each section. Let's use https://bugs.torproject.org/28549 for further communication.

Glad to help.
FWIW PR 58 adds no new content but replaces offline mirrors with newly added ones. arma asked us to keep an eye on the mirror community and there are regularly questions about this in #tor. https://bugs.torproject.org/22150
Operators expect to be linked better. If tpo is not really interested in mirrors, these pages should be removed to avoid further confusion. https://lists.torproject.org/pipermail/tor-mirrors/2018-October/001183.html
Also GetTor delivers offline mirrors because of this. If that functionality is no longer meant to be supported it would better to drop it instead of letting it rot (but hopefully will not). https://gettor.torproject.org/api/mirrors
Sent with best intentions to improve our webpages and services. Thanks for looking into this.
Have a great day!
