Hello Everyone,

I’m Ame (sounds like Amy) from Simply Secure. We are part of a UX/Usability Lab sponsored by the Open Tech Fund to work with open-source groups to improve the user experience of their tools.

I had an exciting conversation with Isabela and Nima this week about ways we might support you all in your effort to improve the UX of different Tor tools. Based on what we discussed, I am interested in working to adapt traditional UX design processes to the open-source world, and in helping those in the Tor community who aren’t familiar with UX learn more about its culture and practices (with the goal of eventually attracting more UX designers to volunteer).

As a tactical first step, we thought that creating a UX style guide (here’s a brief intro <https://simplysecure.org/blog/style-guide/>) for the Tor Project could both act as a springboard for future UX efforts in the longer term, and go a long way toward giving new users confidence in Tor in the immediate term. We had a first conversation that talked about the many places the Tor logo appears (awesome stickers on laptops, in apps, etc).

Over the next month or so, I’m looking to understand more about how/where the Tor logo is used and if/how a style guide would help. I’m hoping to share back what I hear at the Dev meeting in Valencia.

If you’re interested in UX for Tor, I’d like to learn what you’re up to, so reach out.

Cheers,
Ame <https://simplysecure.org/who-we-are/#ame>
