  Honesty is extremely important.  I simply don't think that the
specific approach that you've taken is going to work very well.

  Funding takes ~a while~, even with a funder who is actively
interested in your project.  With Cupcake, I submitted a concept note
in March of 2013, was awarded a formal grant/contract in November,
filed my first invoice in December, and received first payment in late
December.  Major funders in this space are working hard to speed up
this process, but you are still likely looking at six months *at a
minimum* from grant application to being able to pay someone.

  In my opinion, sending out a call for volunteers for these
positions, knowing that *maybe* they could turn into paid positions
later, is a far stronger argument.  It also attracts a different group
of people.

  And for the record, I agree that being dishonest and collecting
applications with no funding to back them is super shitty.  When I was
looking for a job, I ran into that several times and it's pretty
outrageous.
