iodine doesn't abuse the open nature of DNS requests per se, it takes
advantage of the fact that roughly 95% of free networks with a captive
portal allow dns without question. or that people rarely look into dns
packets to see what they are doing.

As far as tor over iodine or nstx, it works fine.
