I think you meant 9050, not 5090.

Also, you shouldn't be using Tor directly as a SOCKS proxy: doing so
can leak information via DNS requests.  (See
http://wiki.noreply.org/noreply/TheOnionRouter/TorFAQ#SOCKSAndDNS .)

Instead, you should point your web browser at an HTTP proxy like
privoxy, and tell the proxy to use SOCKS4a to connect to Tor.  For
instructions on this, see 
http://tor.eff.org/cvs/tor/doc/tor-doc.html#client
