As to the legal questions, our lawyers are drafting a response to this
issue. In the meantime, I suggest you do whatever is necessary to stay
on good terms with your ISP (switching to middleman node, taking the node
down temporarily, etc if they want you to), since that's always useful.

Hello all,

As I already informed Roger, I just had to shut down the althing node
(althing.cs.dartmouth.edu), possibly permanently, precisely due to a DMCA
notice claiming that I served "Chronicles of Riddick" - the authorities
here would not agree to selective blocking and are asking for some legal
statement saying that continued operation of the node will render neither
college, nor the lab and its sponsors liable for future DMCA violations.

Yes, I do believe mine was a real notice.

This makes me wonder. The coincidence in the accusation suggests that this
is not an accident. The date on the notice I was quoted claims that the
download happened late night/early morning on 30 Nov 2004. If we are
talking the same statement here, one has to wonder where and whom they are
watching and whom they are trying to scare. (Did we finally meet a global
adversary who is able to watch traffic all over the web?)

I would very much appreciate some legal help - anything to convince the
people in charge that they will not be held liable.
