Here's what I had planned to do in October:

> - Complete the simulation of Steven's utp branch in Shadow with Rob's
> help, and write a full final report probably with Steven's help.

Done. The utp branch can now be simulated in Shadow, though there are
still bugs preventing us from comparing its performance to the unchanged
Tor code. Published a tech report together with Steven and Rob [1].
This concludes sponsor F year 3 item 10.

> - Simulate whatever Nick, Andrea, and Roger come up with for an
> improved scheduler in Shadow and compare it to vanilla tor.

Not done. Haven't been asked to simulate something, though I would
probably not have been able to squeeze it in anyway.

> - Retire the old user number estimates on the metrics website as
> announced on tor-dev at .

Done. Updated user estimates are available [2]. This concludes my part
of sponsor F year 3 item 12.

> - Help Kostas integrate the results of his GSoC project into Onionoo.

Not done. Discussed a bit with Kostas, but realized that this was too
ambitious for October. Kostas is going to do more coding work here and
deploy his code somewhere, and once it's stable enough, we'll deploy it
on a torproject.org machine.

> - Help make the Tor Q&A site on Stack Exchange a success.

Somewhat done. Responded to a few questions in the first half of
October, not so much in the second half.

Other relevant things I did in October are:

- Helped Aaron and Anupam with their traceroute experiment. See
tor-relays posting from October 23 [3]. This was part of sponsor F year
3 item 4.

- Published tech report on a design for a Torperf rewrite together with
Sathya and Kevin [4]. This was for sponsor F year 3 item 8.

- Finally got my #7359/morestats5 branch in shape so that Nick liked it
enough to merge it. From the changes file: "Extend ORCONN controller
event by ID parameter and add four new controller event types CONN_BW,
CIRC_BW, CELL_STATS, and TB_EMPTY that shall help understand connection
and circuit usage. The new events are emitted in private Tor networks
only. Implements proposal 218. Resolves ticket #7359." This was for
sponsor F year 3 item 3.

- Reformatted Onionoo specification [5] based on Christian's work (#9414).
