# EADV Spring Meeting

I attended the [Employers Against Domestic
Violence](http://employersagainstdomesticviolence.org/) event on
"Profiling Abusers and Killers: Common Traits and Differences" by David
Adams of [Emerge](http://emergedv.com/). It is a great talk where the
myths and actual facts about abusers is discussed. Victims of abuse have
many issues in the workplace where employers may not recognize or handle
the victim appropriately. Frequently, the victim is blamed and fired,
only to make their situation far worse.

# Reach Beyond Domestic Violence

I talked with the staff members of [Reach Beyond Domestic
Violence](http://www.reachma.org/) about technology and abusers. I
discussed in more detail these two [case
studies](https://wiki.tpo.is/Case%20Studies) from my own experience over
the years. I referenced my [World Bank
Hackathon](https://people.torproject.org/~andrew/2013-01-27-dvhackathon/
2013-01-27-presentation.html) presentation a few times as an example of
how easy it is to infect a phone with spyware and learn everything about
a target or victim.

My intent was not to traumatize them with the scariness of abuse of
technology. However, we took some time to recover and talk about how
one can use the same technologies being abused to help victims.
[Tails](https://tails.boum.org/) is a great start for many victims and
survivors.

Reach is a great organization and I look forward to working with them
in the coming months.
