Reinserting of resurrected nodes

Tor servers Nefarion and Pboxlevel4 are up and running again
 affter a long shutdown due to a connectivity outage.

However they are still marked ad down in stats on two
 dirserver. Is the reinsertion in dir a manual operation
 that must be requesteD ?
Or, if automatic, what are the reinserting conditions?
