    More testing improvements
    
    Handful of small additional testing improvements. For my netbook this makes a
    fairly noticeable different but on my pc improvements are modest...
    
      unit: 2.4s => 2.1s (12% faster)
      integ: 46.4s => 39.4s (15% faster)
