 OK, then it can be closed. However there is still an issue related to
 point 3 that I've mistakenly associated with zooming.

 The issue not related to zooming at all, it's instead caused by resizing
 the window from default size and resizing the window back: the
 letterboxing does not disappear, i.e. it is not restored to the default
 state of the newly created (default-sized) window without letterboxing
 space around the "content" area.

 How to reproduce:
 1. open a window
 2. resize the window (letterboxing appears)
 3. resize the window back exactly to the default size (use another fresh
 window as "reference")
 4. the letterboxing space is still applied (the "content" area is smaller
 than default by 100 in both width and height)

 Expected behaviour:
 - In the step 3 the letterboxing should disappear, as in a fresh default-
 sized window.
