Comment (by eighthave):

 Seems like the daemon is not truely being disabled then.  Perhaps you
 could try all the options to see what sticks, e.g.
 `org.gradle.daemon=false` in ''~/.gradle/gradle.properties'' and setting
 it in `GRADLE_OPTS` too.
