 Branch _01 has all the fixups and new commit from the review.

 Branch _03 is squashed with the latest.

 Everything includes asn's latest unit tests as well. Might be a bit
 difficult to follow the latest because a lot has been fixed and added so
 let me know how I can make this as smooth as possible.
