 I'll be able to take a look later today when I'm done travelling.

 I'd very much like it if we can get teor and dgoulet to have a look as
 well to confirm that this doesn't unsolve the problems they were trying to
 solve with the commits you mention in your commit message. ("This change
 backs out some of the changes made in commit e72cbf7a, and most of the
 changes made in commit ba6509e9."
