 How about a variant on those two: "don't ask a directory server for a
 thing it doesn't know how to answer"?

 I think it is currently the case that only v3 dir auths are expected to
 know how to answer extrainfo requests?

 And also there is not currently any way to communicate in your
 descriptor/etc that you are happy to answer them?
