 I've reviewed all the changes up to
 30edde4bce7c5f34abb673604cc6e08c43195425.
 The code changes are trivially correct, the unit test changes are proven
 by execution.

 All unit tests pass ok with no failures, as does `make test-network-all`.

 I would be ok with this being merged, but I'd like to run it through
 coverity or clang-scan eventually.
