 I don't think this would work that well because there are other options in
 that window that the user might want to set before closing the window. It
 would even be experienced as a GUI bug when the window suddenly closes
 just because you clicked on one of its elements.

 And only a minority of users would actually use them, but this is just an
 addition for "power users" and not meant as a replacement. Possible
 shortcuts, that Firefox doesn't use already, are `Alt + K` for setting
 security one level higher and `Alt + L` for setting it one level lower. Of
 course, a visual feedback would be required because changing this setting
 isn't immediately reflected in user's experience. I think Torbutton icon
 itself is the best place in general for displaying the security level.

 I think this would make the toolbar too crowded, by default there's
 already Torbutton, NoScript, and HTTPS Everywhere.

 A rectangle between the menu items (New Identity, New Tor Circuit...) and
 the circuit diagram, with the security slider within the rectangle, would
 work very well in my opinion. The background color of the rectangle could
 also reflect the current security setting.
