Comment:

 I've had the pleasure to get some more information about this problem on
 the weekend due to a user on #tor. My assumption is this is the same
 underlying issue (the user in #tor is not the bug reporter).

 The user freshly downloaded Tor Browser 6.0.7 for OS X and has not been
 using Tor Browser before. He is on OS X 10.12.1 and installed Tor Browser
 to /Applications.

 When started the "Something went wrong..." text appears and the onion is
 crossed out and Tor Browser is not working. Now the user closed Tor
 Browser and it seemed he got the experimental one, installed and started
 it and it worked.

 After getting rid of the alpha and the `TorBrowser-Data` dir he installed
 the stable again. This time after starting he was greeted with a Firefox
 icon. I tried to let him check which extensions he has active on
 `about:addons` but Tor Browser froze after entering "about:addons" and
 hitting Return.

 Very weird. I try to get more info (especially the profile dir) as I have
 his email address.

 I plan to ask whether installing to the Desktop works at least. If there
 is more that comes to mind immediately let me know.
