Some attendees of ADINA15 may be required to apply for visas to enter the
country. The Italian embassy seems to require a invitation letter. The
format of the letter should be similar to this:

(Unfortunately, embassies tend not to appreciate terms such as
'hackathon'. As much as it pains me, I've had to switch to a bit more
formal wording. Also it would be highly preferred it had some kind of
 letter head)

 The Visa Officer
 Italian Embassy
 <City>, <Country>

 Dear Sir/Madam,

This letter is to support the visa application letter of Mr/Ms <Full
 Name>.

Mr/Ms <Last Name> is invited to attend A Dive into Network Anomalies 2015.
Organized by the Open Observatory of Network Interference with
collaboration with the Nexa Center for Internet and Society, ADINA15 is a
series of workshops focused on the study and development of computer
 networks.

The Open Observatory of Network Interference is the curator of a public
archive of over 15,000 measurements from 70 countries world wide. OONI
maintains a free software, global observation platform designed to enable
better understanding of Internet topography, in particular network
anomalies and interference. Friends and sponsors of OONI include the Open
 Rights Group, Greenhost and Google.

Mr <Last Name> is invited to participate as part of a team to work on
creating solutions to understanding this vast database of data as well as
expand it. With attendees from all around the world, the event aims to
foster an environment promoting ingenuity, creativity and collaboration.
After work is complete, the conference will recognize and award the top
three participating teams in ADINA15. All data and source code created
throughout the event be published using an open license to ensure that is
as accessible as possible for researchers.

The conference will be held at Chamber of Deputies of the Italian
Parliament (Nuova Sala dei Gruppi Camera dei Deputati Via Campo Marzio 78
Rome, Italy) spanning a period of two days between the 1st of October and
 the 2nd of October 2015.

I will be happy to answer any further questions you may have about the
 event and the arrangements.

 Thank you.

 Sincerely,
