 The metrics-lib in this branch isn't up to date. When I ran some tests
 today using submodule init and update it installed 1.5. This causes a null
 pointer exception in descriptor.jar during descriptor read. It works fine
 with metrics-lib 1.6 which I tested by symbolic link.
