 This sounds like a bug between Instantbird's system tray code and your
 window manager. Unfortunately the system tray code is mostly unmaintained.

 It might be worth seeing if this is filed in the upstream code
 (https://github.com/nmaier/mintrayr). We haven't taken any fixes from
 there in a while as the codebase was rewritten.
