 OK, let's tackle this.

 I was unable to reproduce this with Ubuntu 14.04 and Thunderbird 31.3.0.
 Same goes for #13722. Do you see anything on the console if you start
 Thunderbird from the terminal? Does it say "TorBirdy registered!"?
