Comment:

 This is quite and old ticket, and the suggestion to use /usr/bin/sendmail
 no longer applies, as the current code of smtplib explicitly expects a
 hostname (see [https://hg.python.org/cpython/file/2.7/Lib/smtplib.py#l239
 this]).
