I live in a flat so a self contained small system would work most useful.
I came across the Small Tokyo Farm in-a-Box alternative on Amazon and Home
Depot website for around $300 with transportation. This farm includes the
stand, planters carton, pump, tubes, and what looked like arbitrary PVC
 pipe.

You must buy your own 10 gallon tank and things to fill the tank and
planter box. The directions for setup are a little hazy when it comes to
the PVC, but once I found out that "dab reducer" meant the same thing as
extra PVC that hangs out the bottom and is perhaps not in the image, setup
 was a breeze.
Remember that is really a garden free OF LAND! Once I got my system I
really needed to do more research, but alas I was nave and filled my
planter box with natural soil. At least I understood that fertilizer was a
 bad thing!
The pellets have some silt on them normally. You can either wash off the
pellets you will use in a strainer or run the body for about 15 minutes
and alter you water. Once you clean the pellets your tank water will
 remain relatively clear.
I began researching and found out that I must have got clay pellets to
fill my box after my water turned terrible brown. Should you plan early
you can order the pellets on the internet, or in case you are like me and
too impatient to wait another second for your clay you can simply take a
 day at [http://www.eubos.de/?option=com_k2&view=itemlist&task=user&id=420
internet marketing]. Yes, that is what I meant. When you walk in to the
astonishingly hazeless doorways you will find each of the memorabilia you
could ever imagine, but usually in the back corner there's a specific
location for many who grow their own. Just tell the person at the counter
you need clay pellets for your own hydroponic system and they will quickly
help. For whatever reason hydroponic systems are popular with the Cannabis
 crowd
 .
Attempt to acquire just as much soil as possible off your plants before
you place them in the box. You must remove ALL the soil (the fertilizer
 will kill your fish).

if they have a fertilizer. So that you do not need to be worried about
your plants starving the clay will pull water up from the underside of the
 tank.
Now that you understand the plants lets work in the fish!
10 goldfish in a tank, That is SO many. The most popular goldfish can get
as much as a foot in length! The whole "a goldfish just grows to its
environment" thing is thoroughly false, therefore do not believe that they
will all remain small. Goldfish like places to hide so that they will
adore a structure they could enter into.
You can now set up your own personal miniature ecosystem and watch the way
the plants and animals work harmoniously to produce a better environment
for several. You will begin to see the advantages of getting an apartment
aquaponic system in only a couple of days whenever you are able to pick
your own herbs and also vegetables.
DO NOT put plain tap water directly in to the tank. You'll also require a
testing kit for pH, ammonia, and the temperature. I prefer the tests that
remain within the water continuously. Which means you know exactly where
every thing is the test strip changes colour. Goldfish do not like
temperatures above 75F, but they are able to handle an array of
temperatures. Do not feed the fish if the tank is below 50 - 55F.
Something I did not find out about goldfish is that they have no belly.
They're nearly always munching on some thing so adding anacharis, or
Brazilian Waterweed. When they do not have food in their tanks your fish
will eat the leaves. Should you feel like expanding your fish's diet from
its fish flakes or pellets you can add many fruits and vegetables to the
take. Before you put any fresh food in there cook it in order that it
falls apart immediately. That makes it easier for them to consume it!
Goldfish also like hardboiled egg whites. One egg can last quite a little
while with so few fish. I normally place a bit about the size of my
thumbprint in the tank every 3 days.
Welcome to your new unprocessed life!
