 So after conversing with ioerror on Tor-Talk I need to add more info:

 Testing TorBirdy v0.1.2 with Thunderbird 31.3 (and earlier releases) work
 fine. It's only TorBirdy v0.1.3 that breaks Thunderbird GUI from loading.

 I'm not sure what other info to add, please let me know if you need
 something else and I'll do my best to report.
