 Testing the SocksSocket-009 revision:

  * This required extensive formatting fixes (see fixup in my
 ticket12585_v2 branch); please run make check-spaces and remember to keep
 lines under 80 characters and not use hard tabs next time.

  * The patch appears to work correctly in testing.

 Will proceed with detailed code review now.
