 It would be useful if the effect of this setting were only temporary, i.e.
 if there were an option "make me appear to be in country XY until I next
 click 'new identity'".

 That would probably be a better trade off between anonymity and
 functionality.

 I suspect that typically, users don't need to appear to be coming from a
 given country all the time; they only need this feature to access certain
 sites.
