 FWIW: the Mozilla folks are thinking about cross-compiling all their Mac
 builds on Linux machines (see:
 https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=927061). So, they might face
 the same problem. Hence, I opened a bug
 (https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=991522) and try to get some
 feedback on a solution they would accept later today. We'll see how it
 goes.
