 TORSOCKS_CONF_FILE, as you've discovered. The man page needs to be
 updated.

 use both, as you've found, you need to set both variables.
 Could this be "harmonised"? In other words, to look for the same
 environment variable, instead of mucking about with ttdnsd/torsocks
 startup scripts?

 instance of Tor that is listening on 19050

 Nope! I get a warning from tor that it is receiving an IP address (as
 oppose to host name), so torsocks/ttdnsd definitely connects to the tor
 instance.

 > 6) On the other hand, after review the Torsocks code for (4), I may have
 found a bug that would cause (5).

 Torsocks and ttdnsd you used?
 The latest source, fetched from the git repos of both ttdnsd and torsocks
 at the time I made this report. My OS is Linux (Fedora). I compile and
 build the rpm on x64 (quadcore CPU), but the tor/ttdnsd/torsocks packages
 are run on a separate old P2 machine with about 256MB RAM.

 I did attempt another try about two weeks ago, but, again, hit a brick
 wall and gave up at the end. If you need any assistance with this, please
 let me know.
