 I asked some clueful Google people about this.  They had no idea what was
 going on with SSL and google.cn :/ :(

 If you want to checkout the git repo from China, there's a version at
 https://git.torproject.org/https-everywhere.git but that probably won't
 help you.  You could try working from someone's non-master repository on
 github, such as:

 https://github.com/2d1/HTTPS-Everywhere.git    or
 https://github.com/neheb/https-everywhere.git
