 This issue is very similar (and possibly a duplicate) of #5244.

 Further, I can report that using this release:
 https://dev.guardianproject.info/attachments/download/634/Orbot-
 release-v12-alpha3-tor-0.2.4.10-alpha.apk

 Solves the flickering problem on my Nexus 4 running Android version 4.2.2
