 Yes.

 The original intent (IIRC) was that they should give "the status
 information as present in the directory."  There was no v3 contemplated at
 the time.

 I'm not sure it's right to have dir/status/* return v3 information, in
 case there's anything out there that expects the v2 format.  But it's not
 right to have it return v3 information in the v2 format, since what it was
 supposed to do was to include the information as present in the directory.
